Welcome to Station 3

Minefield *with a twist*: Focus. Get around the obstacles and Reach your Dreams.

Fact: Minefield is a classic TEAM-BUILDING activity.

This station is just a few steps away from Station 2: Sack Race. This place is full of stones *which is part of the game by the way.*

Location:

A place, preferably with stones as the way, and also one with a tree nearby and shady for the facilitators. This time it's Avenida Ysabelita (places with names are a shoo-in and good for rhyming the clues.) It helps also if you cordon the area.

In-charge / Facilitators:

Ate Maricel, Kuya Denz and Ate Janice

What you need:

  1. boxes, bottles or cartoons to act as a minefield. (in our case we used our company's products as the minefields)
  2. a blindfold (hanky or scarf)cartolina ( color coded. depending on what color the team is. in our case 4 different colors).
  3. yarns
  4. tie box
  5. whistle
  6. timer
  7. rules/point sheet
  8. back-up clue for the facilitators

What to do with the materials :

to the cartolina
  1. cut the cartolina 1/8 lengthwise.
  2. each team would have 5 pieces*depending on a pair* of 1/8 lengthwise cartolina with their color.
  3. write "a dream" or "goals" on one side. (dream/goal examples: car, house, success, savings, goals, travel)
  4. write "a bit" of their clue the other side
  1. make sure to indicate if it's a dream or a clue.

Why "a bit" of their clue only?
  • they would need the 5 pieces to form or arrange their next clue.

Where would they place the 20 pieces(5 pcs x 4 teams) of cartolina ?
  • You have to place those cartolinas hanging on a tree using a yarn. { refer to the picture on the left }
Mechanics:

Once again they are asked to pair up { look at the line they made at a picture on the right side } and they have 10 minutes to finish the game.

For each pair, one would be blindfolded and the other would be the guide. Let them decide who gets to be blindfolded and the guide.

  1. The guide and the blindfolded person must be careful not step on the "mines" which are the cartoons and boxes all over the place. Make sure the spaces you create are just enough for them to take a step and not to touch the boxes.
  2. The guide would dictate to the blindfolded person which step and how many to take, carefully avoiding the mine and leading the blindfolded person to reach for the "cartolina" with their corresponding color with their dreams and the clue at the back on a tree. { refer to the 4th picture on the right: the funniest pair of all. }
  3. The guide must be the only one who would dictate and nobody from their group. They can cheer and encourage the pair though.
  4. Explain that once a pair is finished they are to attempt to form the clue at the back of each dream. { refer to the 5th picture on the right side.}
  5. Remind them about the 10 minutes limit.

Point System:

  • for each piece of cartolina: 100 p.v.
  • for each team that finished the task: 500 P.V.
  • forming the clue: 1000 P.V.
  • Finishing the task in less than 10 minutes: e.g. 8 minutes - they have 1,000 Points per remaining minutes. If they finished it in 8 minutes, they have an additional 2,000 points. Round-off is applicable: example - 8.50 minutes that is equivalent to 9 minutes. Only 1,000 points to be added

Point Deduction:

  • when they step on a mine (box, cartoon): 50P.V.
  • when they pulled the wrong cartolina: 50 P.V.
  • and other unfair practices they might think of.

What if they did not finish on time?

10 minutes is 10 minutes.

  • The Facilitator would blow his/her whistle to indicate "Stop" and record how many cartolinas they got. How many pairs finished.
  • The Facilitators have extra "envelopes" for each team for their next clue.
  • Note: Make sure to indicate the envelopes which team is it for. Each team has different clues. Finished or Unfinished the next clue would be given to them. The points for completion of a clue will be null and void.

Lesson:

A tip on how to succeed in Network Marketing is FOCUS. Focus on one company. The voice in the game would be the "company". Just focus and you will reach your dreams. Of course, there are obstacles *the Mine in the minefield* along the way, the road is rough *the stones* and the way could be dark *the blindfold*. But, if you focus and follow the light, you could reach your dreams. You don't reach your dreams without sacrifices, stumble blocks along the way you know. And this is one way to teach them just that.

Sack Race *with a twist*: Strike The Balance

This is the second station after Treasure Hunt. Actually all the stations are numbered according to where it is located refer to the map I made for the facilitators. But, the clues and the sequence of each team varies making them hop from one place to another.

This time the game is located at the Windmill Lane of Felis Beach Resort.

TIP: In looking for locations you have to at least look for shaded areas so as the facilitators won't get too tired or to beat.

In charge:

Ate Disay and Kuya JunDi

What the facilitators need:

*2 sacks
*16 plastic cups (4 Cups per team) or Styrofoam cups - we used our Vendo Coffee cups, it's recycled. We are nice to Mother Nature you know.
*Beach Water *if you are at a beach use the beach water, if not use tap water*
*Pail of Beach Water *so that you can recycle the water too*
* 2 litro Coke Plastic Bottle ( a choice of any bottle - once again recycled) with Point system in the bottle *Point System would be up to you this time. Point System would measure the amount of water they accumulated during the game
*Whistle
*Timer
*Rules Sheet
*Point/Record Sheet

Rules and Mechanics: Minutes: 10 minutes

Question: Why set minutes? If there's no limit to finish the task the game could go on and on. It's better if there's a set time. But, of course if you have all the time during the day, you can have no limit to minutes.

This time there is no Warm-up Task.

Once the team arrives, the Facilitators/ In charge would explain the rules and the mechanics.

Since there are 10 members each team (make sure the number of team members are EVEN - if you have games that needs pairing up, so as to be fair.) this time they need to pair up. Having 5 pairs each team.

TIP: This game can be done one by one but you have to adjust the minutes because it might take longer to finish the said task.

They have to form two lines with pairs on each side.

*Each pair would get two sacks, one for each pair. And, just like a sack race they have to get inside it.
*They would be handed 4 plastic/Styrofoam cups *2 cups each.*
*In front of them (but not in their way) they have a pail of water and it's up to them to fill their cups with the amount of water they want. (Of course, everybody would fill it up! The more water, the better.)
- After filling it up with water

*Just like a sack race they have to go around the BOTTLE (remember there are 2 bottles) but at the same time they have to balance it and avoid spilling too much water from their cups filled with water.

*Once they reach the Bottle, they have to pour their cups of water into the bottle and go back to their line, circling the bottle.

*Once the first pair is finished, let the next pair do the same thing until it is finished.

*Remind them about the minutes they need to finish the said task.

By the way in our game we only used one bottle. But, in our opinion it's better to have two bottles.

Point System

Their points are based on the amount of water they placed in the bottle. If it fills up - always, record the amount of water before throwing them away.

Finishing the task in less than 10 minutes: e.g. 8 minutes - they have 1,000 Points per remaining minutes. If they finished it in 8 minutes, they have an additional 2,000 points. Round-off is applicable: example - 8.50 minutes that is equivalent to 9 minutes. Only 1,000 points to be added.

Point Deduction

If you find anything that is very foul you can deduct points. Not much violation in this game.

What if they did not finish on time?

10 minutes is 10 minutes. The Facilitator would blow his/her whistle to indicate "Stop" and record how many bottles they got so far. The Facilitators have "envelopes" for each team. Finished or Unfinished the next clue would be given to them

Setbacks:

*The two bottles might fill up right away, just record the measured points and throw the water into the pail *to be re-used* so that it can be refilled. Then add the points up.

*Discard the 4 cups the previous team used right away. Use a different set of cups for another team. Because, in our experience the cups were drenched and soaking wet and almost ruined when the last team used it.

Lessons:

Teamwork.
Team Building
Strike the balance.
Cooperation and Interdependence.

The Game of Interdependence - Station 1

Welcome to Station 1.

Treasure Hunt: "Seek and you will Find".

This is located at the far end of Felis Beach Resort. It's like a trip down to memory lane. It has a big "lapida like" memoir with history etched on it. Beside is a Balete tree.

and this is where Station 1 will be located.

In-Charge:

Kuya Lauro, Kuya Lito and Kuya Welhem.

Before starting the game, the facilitators must explain the mechanics and the rules. Facilitators you have to be clear when you explain the rules to EVERY TEAM.

What the facilitators need:

*Roselle and Spirulina Candies
*Roselle and Spirulina bottles with the colors of the team on top.
*Whistle
*Timer / Stopwatch
*Point/Record Sheet w/ infos such as: which team, how many minutes they finished the task, point deduction, how many bottles they found.
*Rules Sheet
*Water and plastic cup
*Extra clues for each team in case they don't find their clues in time.

Rules and Mechanics:

Minutes: 10 minutes

Do not let them enter the cordoned area which is the "hunting/searching area" without finishing the "warm-up" task.

What is the warm-up task?

They have to be outside the search area when they do this. Before starting the "treasure hunt" they have to finish eating 5 Spirulina Candies and 5 Roselle Candies per team, which would mean 1 candy a choice of spirulina or roselle without water and they really have to chew it (the facilitators have one litre of water as back-up. It is to be used for emergencies). Everyone has to participate and everyone should have their share. 50 points will be deducted if one did not participate.

Once, one team member is finished eating, he or she must raise his/her hand and have his mouth checked and that team member would be allowed to enter the search area.

What will they look for?

5 spirulina/roselle bottles with their "team color" on top to identify it.

What does it contain?

Each bottle contains one piece of paper. 4 of them would be blank and only one would contain the next clue.

Note: They should not touch or open the bottle of other teams. In doing so, 500 points will be deducted from them. They should not open their bottle until they finished looking for all 5 bottles.

Point System:

Per bottle: 500 points X 5 = 2,500 Points
Finishing the task in less than 10 minutes: e.g. 8 minutes - they have 1,000 Points per remaining minutes. If they finished it in 8 minutes, they have an additional 2,000 points.

Round off is applicable for the seconds. :)

Following actions will make them lose points:

Illegal entry - 100 points
Touching/Replacing other team's bottle: 500 points

what if they did not finish on time?

10 minutes is 10 minutes. The Facilitator would blow his whistle to indicate "Stop" and record how many bottles they got so far. The Facilitators have extra "envelopes" as back-up for each time in case a bottle got misplaced, or they did not finish on time.

Setbacks:

*Sometimes they would just barge in the cordoned area without asking the facilitators what to do. So be sure to tell them at the beginning to talk to the facilitators before starting a task.

Lessons:

Teamwork. All for one, one for All.
Division of Labor *dividing the candies*
Interdependence.
Learning how to "Seek". Remember the future belongs to the Seekers.

The Game of Interdependence - Introduction

Originally posted HERE.

Last December we had our Christmas Party at Felis Beach Resort(Davao). The highlight of the said event was our "amazing-race-team-building" kind of game. It was like some sort of halo-halo, only it's different. Some games we found on the net and others were ordinary games that we created with a twist. This game was inspired from a "Kamuritsing Race" I mentioned in my Raw and Rainbow Salad post.

And I said in my post last time that I would share to you the mechanics and the stations of the game and so here it is:

Arranging the said game was a huge piece of work. There were a lot of what-if's along the way.

Where can you play the game?
*A huge place. Preferably done outdoors.

There are 4 teams(red, blue, green and white) and 5 stations. Each team is composed of 10 people picked randomly upon registration. It's good if some of them don't know each other because it would give them an opportunity to socialize and bond with the group.

Most games that involves teams have leaders. But, we did not ask them to appoint any team leader for the group because we want them to be "Interdependent" with each other. It wasn't a game of who gets to finish first although it was our original plan but so as to be fair we used the "point value system". WE have to arrange the sequence of the stations of each team, so that they would not have to wait.

Each team would be given envelopes which would contain a "Felis Resort brochure" and their first clue. Some of them did not realize that the brochure was what we kept referring to as the "map". Along the way, I have to point it out, that the brochure was the map.

The five (5) stations are:

Station 1: Treasure Hunt
Station 2: Sack Race *with a twist*
Station 3: Minefield
Station 4: Zhi Relay
Station 5: Carols

*a sketch I made for the Facilitators*

We added one last station at the last minute, so that they will be informed that they finished all the designated stations.

You have to be sure that each team has a different sequence of which station to go first.

We also made each team come up with their own cheer in five minutes before starting the game. In that way, they could loosen up with each other before the game starts.

to be continued: Station 1: Treasure Hunt

This was a game we had last December 2007, when we had our Christmas Party at Felis Beach Resort.

This series was originally posted at my other blog Life is Abundant. It seems like the post did not seem to fit the blog. Although the Game of Interdependence, pretty much includes lessons on Life and Abundance. Nevertheless, the readers there are not Networkers or not into Team-Building of any kind.

I will transfer those posts here.

Alrighty? :P

Great Day!

My godfather suggested that the DXN Service Center of Legaspi, Davao City should have at least a blog about the latest activities of the Service Center, so that the distributors who frequent online would be informed about what's happening.

It is just quite fitting to launch this blog today because it's the Wedding Anniversary of the owners.

You would find different testimonials, updates here in this blog... and we'll see how it goes.

All the best and Happy Networking!
